HC grants injunction against Pune med college
Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Friday granted an injunction
against Kashibai Navle Medical College, Pune, and directed
the college not to admit any student who scores less than
168 marks under the common entrance test (CET) held by
an association of private medical colleges, till September
28.
A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice
Dr D Y Chandrachud was hearing a petition filed by Gaurav
Das, a Mumbai resident, who was refused an admission form
by the college last week.
The state has 11 private medical colleges and 21 dental
colleges, admissions to which are conducted on the basis
of a candidates performance in the CET held by the Association
of Managements of Private Unaided Medical and Dental Colleges.
Das filed a petition in the high court seeking directives
against the college management as well as Pravesh Niyantran
Samiti. Das sought that vacancies in the college, if any,
should be filled by admitting him. He also sought that
no other student who has secured lower marks than him
(he scored 168 in the CET) should be admitted to the college.
According to Medical Council of India rules, the admission
process must be over by September 30. Das was shocked when
he was denied an admission form by Kashibai Navle Medical
College. Shocked by the denial, Das urged the high court
to intervene. The HC has now sought a reply from the college
management as well as other respondents on the petition
by September 28.
