Panel slams college assns for failure to submit CET
results
Pune: The Pravesh Niyantran Samiti (PNS), a Supreme Courtmandated
panel, has decided not to approve the 2010-11 admissions
effected by those associations of private professional
colleges which have failed to submit the results of their
common entrance tests (CETs) to the PNS.
Private unaided institutions offering professional courses
are entitled to hold CETs of their own by way of forming
their association or even in an individual capacity. However,
their CETbased merit list and admissions are subject to
verification by the PNS, which is headed by a retired
high court judge, for regulating admissions to professional
courses in the state.
The associations are required to furnish their CET details
to the PNS within a reasonable time from the declaration
of the test results. Speaking to TOI on Monday, PNS office
secretary P E Gaikwad said, “The panel has decided
in principle not to approve admissions of those associations
which have not furnished the CET results within a week
of their declaration.”
Gaikwad, however, added, “The concerned associations
are being given an opportunity to explain their failure
to submit the details on time. We have sent letters to
these associations giving them a fortnight to furnish
their replies, which would be placed before the panel.”
Of the total seven private college associations identified
by the PNS, four are in the higher and technical segment
and the remaining three in the health sciences segment.
These are: the Association of Management of MBA/MMS Institutes
(AMMI), Pune; the Management Association of MCA Institutes
(MAMI), Ahmednagar; the Maharashtra Vina-Anudanit Adhyapak
Mahavidyalay Sansthachalak Association (MVAMSA), which
has 217 B.Ed and 57 M.Ed colleges; and the Maharashtra
Sharirik Shikshanshatra Mahavidyalay Vyavasthapan Mahasangh,
which has 90 physical education (B.PEd) and 19 M.PEd colleges
under its banner, in the state.
The AMMI had 123 private unaided colleges participating
in the ‘AMMI-MBA/MMS-CET 2010’ that was held
on July 18 and the results declared on July 28. Similarly,
the MAMI had conducted the ‘MAMI-MCA-CET 2010’
on July 4 and the results were declared on July 14 for
admissions to 74 participating MCA colleges.
On the health sciences front, the Association of Management
of Private Unaided Medical and Dental Colleges (AMPUMDC)
did not even take a prior approval of the PNS for its
‘APGN-CET-2010’, meant for M.Sc (Nursing)
course, and ‘APGP-CET-2010’ meant for masters
in physiotherapy (M.Pth) course. The two CETs were held
on July 25 for seven and five colleges respectively and
their results were declared on July 26. The AMPUMDC is
yet to submit details of these CETs to the PNS.
The Association of Management of Homoeopathic Medical
College of Maharashtra and Pune-based M A Rangoonwala
College of Dental Sciences, which is a minority institution,
have not submitted details of the ‘APGH-CET-2010’
for post-graduate homoeopathy course and ‘MARDC-CET-2010’
for dental course respectively to the PNS.
Stock Taking Time
The Pravesh Niyantran Samiti has set up two expert panels
under the directors of technical education (DTE) and higher
education for the verification of merit list and admissions
to all higher and technical courses for 2010-11 in the
state.
The panel will verify admissions to all technical courses
including engineering degree and direct second year engineering
seat allotments, MBA, MCA, pharmacy, hotel management
etc.
Similarly, the DHE-led panel will verify admissions to
all higher education courses including B.Ed, M.Ed, B.PEd
and M.PEd, among others. All colleges have also been directed
to submit their list of admissions for 2010-11 to the
PNS by December 15 for the latter’s approval.
