Mum univ puts revaluation on the fast track
Mumbai: Thousands of degree college and university students
who have to wait endlessly before getting hold of their
revaluation results now have a reason to rejoice. In a
new process developed by Mumbai University, revaluation
results of exams conducted by colleges will be declared
within 30 days and within 45 days for exams conducted
by the university.
Acting vice-chancellor Chandra Krishnamurthy, who released
the set of new directives (see box) to be followed, focused
on some sweeping changes. Students no longer need to mandatorily
apply for photocopies. A scrutiny committee, which used
to sit on each and every revaluation application, before
accepting or rejecting them, has been done away with.
Lastly, keeping in view the ballooning of revaluation
cases, the university has decided to hold a centralised
reassessment process, by involving all college teachers
(involved in assessment work) for revaluation.
Controller of examinations Vilas Shinde said that the
new process will not only expedite the entire revaluation
process but will even smoothen it out for students. They
will have to merely submit the application and prescribed
fees in their college, and not queue up outside the university.
Each year, the university sees about 50,000 students who
apply for photocopies and many go in for revaluation.
Several senate members have been fighting for a faster
revaluation process. “Why should students wait so
long? There should have never been a panel to look into
the merit of a student’s request,’’
said senate member Dilip Karande.
Earlier, a scrutiny panel used to assess if a student’s
paper/s merited revaluation. Now, the scrutiny committee
has been done away with and all can seek revaluation.
Rule Book
Students can apply for a photocopy of the answer sheet
and revaluation at the same time. Photocopies can be obtained
from the college itself upon payment of Rs 100 per answer
book. Obtaining a photocopy is no longer mandatory
The varsity will try to provide the photocopy within 25
days. If you come across a discrepancy, inform your college
principal within 7 days
Apply for revaluation at your college by filling an application
form and paying Rs 500 within 7 days of the results being
declared
If there’s a difference of 10% between your original
score and the revalued one, you’ll be given a new
score. If the difference exceeds 25%, a second revaluation
will be done and the new marks will be considered final
The final scores will be sent to your college principal.
