Varsity to take action against unruly
affiliated colleges
Ahmedabad: Gujarat University has decided to crack its
whip on colleges that are reluctant to be centres for
examinations conducted by the university or other public
examinations.
Gujarat University (GU) syndicate decided that colleges
which refuse to be part of public examinations conducted
or decline to be centres for examinations conducted by
the varsity will risk losing their affiliation.
It has been observed that a number of colleges have been
coming up with excuses to avoid the examination work of
the GU, which is an integral part of any university.
Last minute refusals with reasons like not having enough
staff and on-going construction work, hamper the GU examination
process. Hence it has been decided that colleges refuse
to shoulder the responsibility of the being an exam centre
will face action.
Meanwhile, the syndicate has also decided to take action
against teachers who try to wriggle out of the assessment
process. GU has suffered badly in the past years due to
non-cooperation of a number of teachers, who do not participate
in the paper assessment citing different excuses.
The GU has now made it compulsory that teachers entrusted
with the responsibility of the paper assessment should
check a minimum 300-500 papers after the final exams are
conducted.
There have been instances where results of courses like
BBA and BCA were delayed by as much as two months due
to lack of teachers for paper assessment. This decision
is aimed at setting this process right.
