Social issues find place in class XII
board paper
Ahmedabad: The issue of the girl child found a place in
the board exams as well. Students appearing for Gujarati
language paper of HSC board exams were asked to write
an essay on ‘Importance of girl’s education
in the society’ here on Friday.
In fact, other relevant issues afflicting the society
like environment and advantages and disadvantages of internet
also found a place in the question papers as the other
options. Experts said that this kind of questions would
go a long way to help sensitising young minds towards
crucial issues affecting the society. “Such topics
help students to think about these sensitive issues and
with awareness comes change,” said an activist.
Three dummy students were caught. Of these, two were nabbed
in Kodinar, Junagadh while other dummy students writing
exam for another student was caught in the RC Patel School
in Kadi.
Paper evaluation to resume
Ahmedabad: Evaluation of class XII science stream papers
is expected to resume from Saturday as teachers who stalled
paper checking on Thursday, protesting the penalty hike
for errors in evaluation, were assured an amicable solution
by Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board
(GSHSEB) on Friday.
In a meeting with agitating teachers, GSHSEB authorities
promised that the issue would be taken up in a forthcoming
meeting of the exam committee. “The authorities
told us that if the majority of exam committee members
agreed to reduce the penalty, they would implement the
decision without delay,” said Jagdish Bhatt, president
of Gujarat Higher Secondary Teachers’ Association.
Demand to raise the remuneration of teachers for paper
evaluation also cropped up in the meeting. However, no
decision was taken in this regard.
Paper checking of class XII (science) was stalled on Thursday
after over 100 teachers protested against hike in the
penalty on teachers for errors during evaluation outside
Umiya school campus in Sola. “In 2009, GSHSEB had
issued a government resolution hiking the penalty to Rs
100. Earlier it used to be Rs 10 only. The GR had caused
widespread protest among teachers. GSHSEB chairman Hasmukh
Adhia remained unavailable for comments. TNN |
