BOARD EXAMS BEGIN, 13 LAKH STUDENTS TO APPEAR
Ahmedabad: A total of 13,48,147 students across the state
will appear for class X and XII examinations scheduled
to be conducted from March 4 to March 19. In order to
prevent malpractice in exams, various district administrations
and Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board
(GSHSEB) have formed 1,350 checking squads in the state.
“For SSC, 8,72,616 students are expected to appear
for examinations at 705 centres across the state, of which
556 are main centres, while the rest have been categorised
as sub-centres. For HSC general stream, 3,84,874 students
are likely to appear for exams at 331 centres, while 90,657
students of HSC science stream are scheduled to appear
for exams at 98 centres across the state. This year, there
is an increase of 94,000 students in SSC, and 10,000 students
in HSC,” said GSHSEB vice-chairman HK Patel.
In Ahmedabad city, total 63,506 students are expected
to appear for class X examination at 35 centres, while
28,441 students are slated to appear for general stream
of class XII exams at 14 centres. In addition, 9,094 students
are scheduled to appear for XII science stream exams at
14 centres.
“On first day of exam on Thursday, students will
be greeted with flowers and sweets for good luck. GSHSEB
has also made special seating arrangement for physically
challenged on ground floor. Three students of X and XII
science have demanded writer’s help, citing fracture
injuries in their hands, the approval of which is awaited,”
said Ahmedabad district education officer KK Rathod.
For supervision, 161 checking squads have been deployed.
GSHSEB, which started its helpline service for students
last year, has received 27,000 calls so far in this year.
