16 lakh students to appear for SSC exam


Exams Will Be Held At 19,478 Schools In 3,692 Centres

Pune: The Secondary School Certificate (SSC,Std X) examination,conducted by the Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education,will begin on March 4.Eight divisional boards across the state at Pune,Nagpur,Aurangabad,Mumbai,Kolhapur,Amravati,Nasik and Latur,will conduct the exams in their respective regions.

A statement released by the board on Tuesday said that as many as 16.26 lakh students,comprising 9.01 lakh boys and 7.24 lakh girls,are expected to appear for the examination.The exams will be held at 19,478 schools in 3,692 centres.

Tukaram Supe,secretary of the board said multiple question papers will be given for English (third language ) and mathematics.The total of three language subjects must be a minimum of 105 marks to attain passing marks.However,if the candidate fails in any of the three languages,he/she has to score a minimum of 25% marks and will be eligible for this concession if all three subjects have been appeared for.

From the academic year 2009-10,general mathematics I and II has been introduced as an alternative subject to mathematics (algebra and geometry).This is the first time an examination for this subject will be conducted.General mathematics will also have a multiple question paper.

Question papers for Sindhi (second language),Telugu and Kannada (second/third language) will be set as per the new textbook introduced in 2009-10.

For the subject environment,40 marks have been allocated for the project and 60 marks for the written paper.In order to pass in this subject,14 out of 40 marks in the project and 21 out of 60 marks in the written paper is mandatory.

A total of seven flying squads for each district (245 squads for 35 districts ) have been appointed to avoid malpractice.
