Long queues for engg, pharmacy admissions


Ahmedabad: The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) witnessed a huge number of students turning up for the registration process of engineering and pharmacy colleges at LD Engineering College campus on Friday. On the second day of admissions, registration process was on at 66 help centres across the state. More number of counters had to be opened to cater to the burgeoning number of students and parents.

There were approximately 16,000 students who registered themselves on Friday by producing documents and paying the fee. The first round of admission will go on till July 25. Only 4,100 candidates registered on Thursday, the first day of admission, the process for which started around 2 pm.

Ashutosh Pandya, a parent who had accompanied his son at the venue, said, “There were people waiting in the registration queue for two to three hours. The queue at Government Girls Polytechnic had at least 200 to 250 candidates at a time.” Haren Shah, father of Chaitali Shah, said, “Though the process of admission has been computerised, the process of submission and rest are still manual taking same amount of time.As admissions are declared open, the form has to be downloaded, stamped and fee paid, then registration is done at the assigned counter. Each of these processes take an hour each.” Member secretary of ACPC,MN Patel, said, “We set up six to eight extra counters. By the end of the second day, as many as 20,000 seats have been filled.” TNN
