Engg, pharma merit list declared

Ahmedabad: Merit list of degree courses in engineering and pharmacy was released on Wednesday, following which, students were allotted seats. Those on the merit list were asked to approach nearest helpline centres with required documents for admission on Thursday.

The admission process for 32,779 engineering seats and 6,386 pharmacy seats has been completed. A total of 50.51 lakh students had applied for engineering while 3.58 lakh students had applied for pharmacy.

In open category of Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB), the admission ended at 28,149 numbers on the merit list. In scheduled caste category, the admission ended at 48,471 while in scheduled tribe category it ended at 48,139 and in socially and educationally backward class (SEBC) category, it ended at 40,327.

In engineering, most students opted for mechanical engineering. “The selected students have to take an online print out of their allotment letter and receipt and produce them before the helpline centre for admission. Each helpline centre has been equipped with a bank counter to enable students deposit fee. Reporting at the helpline centre is compulsory, without which students’ admission will be considered null and void,” said MN Patel, member secretary of Admission Committee for Professional Courses.

Patel also stated that those seeking reshuffling will have to make do with the allotted institute. “After being allotted a college, a student won’t be able to change it,” he said.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,440 seats in six engineering colleges under public private partnership (PPP) have been abolished as the colleges were not granted permission by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). That apart, 600 seats in three government engineering colleges have been cancelled for want of permission.
