23,000 students crack Eamcet but fail Inter
14 Candidates Who Got Zero Marks In Eamcet Too Get
Ranks Counselling In August 3rd Week
Hyderabad: The Eamcet-2010 ranks announced on Wednesday
threw up an interesting aspect. A staggering 23,000 students
who cleared the Eamcet-2010 failed in the Intermediate
Public Examinations. The intermediate marks carry a 25
per cent weightage in working out Eamcet ranks.
Of the total 3.03 lakh students who were given Eamcet
ranks on Wednesday 2,59,468 were from engineering and
44,444 from medicine. In the engineering stream, 82.09
per cent of the students who took Eamcet qualified and
in medicine 86.83 per cent qualified.
Releasing Eamcet ranks here, officials said that 20,000
MPC (Maths, Physics and Chemistry) students and 3,000
from BiPC (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) were not given
ranks as they failed in the intermediate examination.
Last year around 25,000 students did not get Eamcet ranks
as they failed in the inter final exams.
Meanwhile, in a twist of fate, 14 students who secured
zero in Eamcet this year were awarded ranks by Eamcet
authorities as they qualified in the inter examination.
“Of the 14, eight may even get admission this year
as the number of seats available is very high in engineering
colleges,” said D N Reddy, JNTU vice chancellor
and chairman, Eamcet committee. But those from the medicine
stream may not be so lucky as the number of MBBS seats
is just 6000.
According to JNTU authorities, who conducted the test,
most of the students who failed in inter secured good
scores in the Eamcet which could have secured them seats
in professional colleges. “There seems to be no
improvement in the scenario despite the fact that inter
marks carry weightage in Eamcet ranks,” said D N
Reddy.
Officials said that those who scored less marks in Eamcet
got better ranks as they did well in intermediate. “Some
of the top ranks were disturbed when intermediate marks
were given weightage,” officials said underlining
the need for securing good marks in intermediate to claim
top Emcet ranks.
However, the state government which was planning to increase
the weightage of Eamcet marks from 25 per cent to 50 per
cent from 2011 has shelved the decision. Officials said
that the proposal might not be implemented even in 2012
due to lack of support from rural students.
Meanwhile, around 1,300 students were not given Eamcet
ranks as their intermediate marks were not available.
Eamcet authorities said that in the case of medical stream
students, they would have to wait until July 25 and those
from engineering stream until July 28 to submit their
inter marks.
M V Venkataramana Rao, minister for technical education,
announced that the Eamcet counselling for engineering
colleges will begin in the third week of August. Over
2.55 lakh engineering seats will be available for students
to take admission this year. Around 6,000 seats will be
available in the medical stream.
