Univ marksheets get colourful
Move Will Make It Difficult To Produce Fake Certs:
Experts
Mumbai: Students receiving their marksheets from the Mumbai
University are in for colourful surprise, with the traditional
plain marksheets making way for a brighter version. Opting
for a rainbow colour scheme, university officials cite
security measures as one of the main reasons for the change.
The last lot of the plain marksheets were distributed
to students who took their exams in the second-half of
the academic year of 2009. “The earlier plain marksheets
did not have a distinguishing feature about them and lacked
security codes. It was only the degree certificate that
had security code. As a result, there was a possibility
of the marksheets being duplicated, which proved to be
a problem for us,’’ said Vilas Shinde, controller
of examinations, University of Mumbai.
Explaining that University officials have taken this step
to curb the trade of fake marksheets, Shinde added, “This
new seven-colour scheme is unique to the Mumbai University
and has been designed following all procedures. In order
to make it even more distinctive, we have introduced seven
security measures into the marksheet. We can’t disclose
the security measures, but they will make it much harder
for people to falsely replicate the marksheet.’’
Earlier this month, the University of Mumbai has filed
a police complaint against as many as 627 students who
had submitted fake marksheets and other documents during
the admission process.
University officials said that the case of fake documents
was rampant with regard to students seeking admission
to third year commerce, Bachelor of Arts, engineering,
Bachelor of Science and also Masters of Management Studies.
These new marksheets have already been distributed for
several courses, including BMM and BEd.
