Std XI admission plan to be released today
Pune: The much-anticipated plan for Std XI admissions
in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will be announced by the
centralised admission process (CAP) panel here on Thursday.
A core group of the CAP panel, headed by deputy director
(education) Sunil Magar, met here on Wednesday to finalise
the admission plan.
Authorities at the office of deputy director (education)
were waiting for the state government’s guidelines
relating to implementation of the admission scheme in
the wake of the Supreme Court’s interim order on
Tuesday, extending the best-five policy to ICSE students
too.
“We expect the guidelines to reach us latest by
tonight,” Magar told TOI, adding, director of secondary
and higher secondary education Bhalchandra Desale has
gone to Mumbai to take the government’s instructions.
According to sources at the department of school education
in Mumbai, the authorities were waiting for a certified
copy of the apex court’s interim order. The same
had not reached Mumbai till Wednesday evening. The department
higher-ups in Mumbai will interpret the apex court’s
order before issuing the guidelines.
Magar said, “We have made all the necessary preparations
from our side to begin the admission process. The state’s
guidelines will enable us to make the minor changes that
are required for the process to be in consonance with
the court’s directives.”
The best-five policy, which allows an SSC student to calculate
his/her aggregate score on the basis of the bestfive scores
out of the total six subjects, was announced on February
25 as a measure towards normalisation of marks scored
by SSC and non-SSC board students. The ICSE schools had
moved the Bombay high court against the policy.
While the Maharashtra state board for secondary and higher
secondary education announced the Std X results on June
17, the ensuing admissions to junior colleges in the state
were held up on account of the legal tussle over the best-five
policy.
The apex court’s interim order on Tuesday cleared
the decks for the admission process. The Fergusson college
has been identified as the nodal institution for implementing
the 2010-11 Std XI CAP for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.
