CET engg counselling: 769 go through the grill
Bangalore: After much speculation and delay, the CET seat
selection process for engineering courses started on Wednesday.
As many as 769 students sealed their seats at the Karnataka
Examination Authority.
While for some it was a big relief that the process had
finally ensued, many students are still anxious about
their academic calender. “I hope the academic calender
is on time and that my first year is not affected,”
said Dilip, a student present at the counselling centre.
However, there were others who complained that the counselling
delay was taking a toll on their future. “I have
got a seat through AIEEE. There, the last date of withdrawal
is July 27. But, my medical seat through CET will depend
on the second round of counselling. I was hoping the second
round will finish soon so that I can take a call on the
AIEEE seat. The delay is making it difficult really for
me,” said Siddharta K T, rank 1298.
THE CRUCIAL NUMBERS
While 39,370 seats were available at the beginning of
the counselling, only 38,601 remains. Out of this, 14,936
is for general merit. On Thursday, from 8.45 am, counselling
for seats 1,601 to 3,200 will be held. There were around
seven new colleges for engineering from the state, out
of which two are from the city.
The first few sessions were conducted on time.
R V College of Engineering was the obvious choice of top
rank holders. “The seats sold off like hot cakes,”
said a KEA official. Electronics, mechanical, electrical
and computer science remained the favourite options. The
first candidate to pick up a seat held the fourth rank,
followed by seventh and ninth.
KEA ON THEIR TOES
The CET cell, which was almost deserted after the medical
counselling, was buzzing with activity on Wednesday. Counselling
will go on during the weekends too.
This time, to ensure transparency, the KEA has taken extra
precautions. As many as 32 CCTVs have been installed in
across centres.
MEDICAL COUNSELLING SOON
The Medical Council of India has instructed the KEA to
complete admissions to all medical courses by August 31.
This will hold true for all states. KEA officials informed
that the second round of medical counselling will be conducted
soon after the engineering counselling.
COMED-K ANNOUNCES DATES
Subsequent to KEA resuming its counselling, Comed-K has
announced the revised counselling schedule for Comed-K
UGET-2010.
The first round of counselling for engineering courses
will be held from July 29 to August 13 and architecture
will be held on August 13.
