DTE revises schedule for centralised admission
ENGINEERING DIPLOMA SEATS
‘Move To Let Quota Students Secure Non-Creamy
Layer Certificates’
Pune: The state Directorate of Technical Education (DTE)
has revised the centralised admission process (CAP) schedule
for the post-SSC engineering diploma courses in view of
the difficulties faced by a section of reserved category
candidates in securing the non-creamy layer certificates
from the district collector offices.
According to the revised schedule, the last date for filling
up of online application forms will be July 12 instead
of July 5 and the last date for confirmation of online
application form and document verification in person at
the designated application receipt centres (ARCs) will
be July 14 instead of July 12.
The final merit list, which was to be declared on July
14 as per the earlier schedule, will now be released on
July 24, said S K Mahajan, director of technical education
(DTE) while speaking to TOI on Sunday. The DTE has posted
the revised notification on its website: www.dte.org.in/poly2010.
“We had received a number of requests from different
quarters including parents as well as officials from district
collectorates, seeking an extension in the admission schedule,”
said Mahajan. “This was mainly because a section
of the reserved candidate students were running against
time to secure the noncreamy layer certificate from the
collector offices,” he said. “The office of
Pune’s deputy district collector was among those
who had requested for an extension in the schedule,”
he added.
The non-creamy layer certificate forms part of one of
the important support documents for students belonging
to the reserved categories. The absence of same can result
in the candidate not getting the benefit or even losing
out on the selection process.
The extension of admission schedule also gives DTE some
more time to formulate its admission strategy, post-declaration
of the final merit list, considering that the row over
the state government’s ‘Best of 5’ policy
for admissions to junior colleges has yet to be settled.
The policy allows calculation of an SSC student’s
aggregate percentage on the basis of the marks secured
in best five out of the total six subjects.
The policy was challenged in the Bombay high court on
the grounds that it discriminates against the ICSE board
students, who have to appear in seven subjects and who
won’t be eligible for the ‘Best of 5’
benefit.
On June 23, the court scrapped the policy but, the state
government announced the next day that it would move the
Supreme Court against the high court verdict. The apex
court is to resume work, post-summer vacation, on Monday
and all eyes are set on the outcome of the ‘Best
of 5’ case.
The DTE had approved the admission rules for post-SSC
diploma on the basis of the aggregate score calculated
from marks scored in all six subjects. “The rules
were approved much before the ‘Best-5’ issue
landed in the court,” Mahajan said.
