Admission for health courses from July 6
Directorate Of Medical Education And Research
Puts Out Plan For Filling Preference Form, Counselling
Pune: Admissions to the first-year health science degree
courses including medical and dental studies for 2010-11,
will commence from July 6 with the process for filling
up of preference forms and counselling rounds at four
designated regional centres in the state.
The state directorate of medical education and research
(DMER), the competent authority for the admission process,
has released the admission notification as well as the
schedule for filling up of preference forms and counselling.
This can be accessed on the directorate’s official
website: www.dmer.org. Pune’s B J Medical College
(BJMC) has been named one of the four regional centres,
along with the Grant Medical College, Mumbai and the Government
Medical Colleges at Aurangabad and Nagpur, for carrying
out the preference form and counselling process.
Unlike engineering degree admissions, there is no online
process for allotment of seats in health science courses.
Candidates declared eligible to participate in the admission
process through the Maharashtra Health and Technology
—Common Entrance Test (MHT-CET) 2010, have to appear
in person for filling up the preference forms at the regional
centres. The preference forms are centrally processed
and a list of selected candidates declared at the end
of each scheduled admission round following which the
candidate has to join the college/course allotted to him/her.
Of the 2.82 lakh students, who appeared in the MHT-CET
2010, a total of 1,76,632 candidates appeared for the
health science courses and 26,905 were declared eligible
to participate in the admission process through the CET
result.
Details relating to the student intake capacity and courses
at all health sciences institutions will be posted on
the DMER website soon, according to the information brochure
of preference system for health science courses. The directorate
has, however, provided course-wise details of the total
intake capacity at the government-run, aided and municipal
corporation-run colleges that offer health science studies.
The information brochure mentions another 85 seats at
four privately-run physiotherapy colleges and 25 seats
at one private college offering the BASLP course.
