Meet to focus on reforms in university exam systems
Pune: Top officials from the state universities as well
as academic experts , including former heads of the University
Grants Commission (UGC) and the Indira Gandhi National
Open University (IGNOU), will deliberate the reforms needed
in examinations at the state universities , during a two-day
meet here from February 5.
The meet has been jointly organised by the Vidyapeeth
Vikas Manch (VVM), a state-level academic forum, and the
Maharashtra Education Societys Institute of Management
and Career Courses (IMCC) at the latters campus in Mayur
colony, Kothurd. The University of Pune has backed the
event under the quality improvement programme.
Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, VVMs state convenor
Dhananjay Kulkarni and IMCC director Vikas Inamdar said:
The meet would focus on a range of issues afflicting the
examination systems prevailing at different state universities
and the need for working out a uniform examination system.
Issues like academic reforms in terms of the objective
of university examination and syllabus framing , examination
methodology, assessment and evaluation, besides administrative
reforms in terms of preand post-examination works and
use of technology in examination will be discussed threadbare
at the meet, Kulkarni said.
The idea is to formulate a white paper and present it
to the state government as well as all the concerned state
universities so that an apt examination system free of
instances like malpractices, paper leaks, etc., which
affect the credibility, gets introduced , he added.
The meet would also focus on concepts like semester system
and changes in evaluation system like grading and credit
accumulation as well as credit sharing, he said.
Former UGC chairman Arun Nigvekar, who heads the technical
committee for the event, will deliver the key note address,
while officiating vice-chancellor of the University of
Pune Arun Adsool will preside over the session.
Member of Planning Commission Narendra Jadhav and state
minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope
will attend the valedictory session on Feburary 6.
