GU colleges get UGC grants for research
Ahmedabad: Research in colleges affiliated to Gujarat
University, is bound to get a push. 25 such colleges have
received special grants from the University Grant Commission
(UGC) under the 11th Plan for minor research projects.
The grants received by the colleges vary between Rs 70,000
and Rs two lakh.
In addition, under the 11th plan, there are two colleges
that have received funds of Rs 35 lakh to build a women’s
hostel.
These are RK Chaoudhari Mahila College and Nav Jeevan
College in Jhalod.
There are remedial and maintenance funds provided to two
colleges in Kheda and Dholka of Rs 11 lakh each. Also,
there are three colleges that have been give Rs 1 lakh
each for seminars and symposiums.
“There are 82 colleges that have benefited by the
funds that have been disseminated from the UGC. The Gujarat
University affiliated colleges have received Rs 7.55 crore
in all. Of these 82 colleges, 18 are the ones that were
benefited from the 10th Plan of the UGC and others in
the 11th plan. This includes a lot of colleges in the
rural areas of the state as well. These funds range from
Rs 4 lakh to Rs 12 lakh,” said vice-chancellor of
Gujarat University, Parimal Trivedi.
