Cambridge university will enhance innovation at IISc
Bangalore: Guess who’s looking at enhancing innovation at Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It’s none other than the University of Cambridge in UK.
A partnership on research will benefit the society and help collaboration across the boundaries, said Alison Richard, vicechancellor, University of Cambridge. Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, the V-C said: “The university will focus on scaling up India’s capacity to offer high-quality and advanced training opportunities to students. This can happen only in a highquality research environment.”
Pointing out that Cambridge is looking at doing things on a larger scale, she said: “We have collaborative activities in India. We are interested to see whether there are partners here to do more in research and innovative activities,” she said.
An MoU with IISc has been funded by UK International Educational Research Initiative to reinforce partnership with UK universities and Indian institution of research, she said.
Partnerships are not easy to pull off, Alison said and added: “UK and India can use partnership models to promote innovation. By doing this, there will be real enhancement to our economies and societies.”
Later delivering a lecture on ‘Catalyzing innovation: the role of universities, she said development in higher education has a key role to play in enhancing change. “UK universities are bringing their own particular know-how and experience to the India. We can expect to see new approaches in addition to established models,” she said.
The panel discussion had scientist Roddam Narasimha as the moderator. The panel members, comprising IIMB director Pankaj Chandra and Anandan, managing director, Microsoft Research India, gave their opinions ranging from importance of eco-system in innovation to management education.
