ICSE to evaluate spoken English
Bangalore: From the next academic year, ICSE teachers
will not carry answer sheets of public exams home for
evaluation. The Council for the Indian School Certificate
Examinations on Friday confirmed the board will follow
centralized markings from academic year 2010-11.
Principals of Anglo-Indian schools were informed about
it at the concluding day of the 88th conference of the
Association of Heads of Anglo-Indian Schools at St Joseph’s
Boys’ High School on Friday.
The latest decision will require all teachers to evaluate
papers at a chosen institution. “This will make
the system transparent and avoid delays,” said Col
John Ellis, principal, Bishop Cotton Boys’ School.
Apart from this, the Council spoke on the effectiveness
of e-registration programme for students. From September
‘09, students of classes 9 and 11 can be registered
online at the board’s site.
Yet another decision was to introduce internal assessment
on speaking and listening skills from class IX. As part
of this, the two papers in English namely English 1 and
English 2 will be renamed English language and English
literature.
The Council informed the heads that schools can provide
children with special facilities like scribes, braille
items or a reader. All that the schools need to do is
to write to the council.
They also iterated plans to continue with board exams
for class X and merge the environmental studies paper
with other subjects from 2013.
