Many city colleges fail to get arts cut-off list
At Least 12K Seats In Arts Stream May Go Vacant
Mumbai: Confusion continues to dog the online junior college
admission procedure as a few colleges did not even receive
cut-off lists from the education department on Friday.
Other principals said they did not get the lists for the
arts stream. If colleges haven’t received the arts
list it is because we have no more applications in that
stream. Almost 12,000 seats will go vacant in this stream.
Currently, there are approximately 14,000 vacant seats.
If some colleges have not received any list then maybe
that college wasn’t chosen by any applicant. There
was no problem in the fourth round on Friday, said a senior
official from the deputy director (school education) office.
Officials predict that after the fifth and final merit
list, which will be announced on August 26, approximately
2,000 arts seats will get filled.
This leaves around 12,000 seats vacant in this stream,
an unusually high number that can be attributed to a greater
demand for science and commerce among city students.
The re-sent list for arts had very few names in it so
we contacted MKCL to check with them. We have now requested
for a new list, said Anila Verghese, principal of Sophias
College. The management at Sathaye College was also left
empty-handed. The fourth merit list for the Arts stream
was not given to us. We only put up the commerce and science
lists today, said principal Kavita Rege.
Meanwhile, most students decided to pay no heed to the
admission websites alert to ignore the erroneous fourth
merit list uploaded on Thursday and wait for the corrected
one, which was put out on Friday. Fortunately, there were
very few changes in the amended fourth merit list. I would
have created a ruckus and confronted the education department
if they had changed the college I was allotted to. I waited
for the fourth list to get through to K C College and
would have been really unhappy if they had removed my
name from it on Fridays list, said junior college aspirant
Suman Arya.
SEAT COUNT
Total seats 51,000
