Now, Aug 14 deadline puts colleges in a fix
ADMISSION TANGLE
Enrolment Date Worries Students As CET Seat-Selection
Is Still On
Bangalore: Colleges affiliated to Bangalore University
are racing against time. With the university fixing August
14 as the last date for enrolment to degree courses, theyre
finding it difficult to complete the process. All because
PU supplementary results were announced only last week
and the CET seat selection for professional courses is
still on.
A large number of PU supplementary students join various
degree courses. As results were announced last week, these
students will still be checking availability of seats,
M Prakash, principal, Seshadripuram First Grade College,
told TOI.
He and many principals, managements wrote to the BU vice-chancellor
N Prabhu Dev to extend the earlier deadline for admission
of July 31. He revised it to August 14.
However, principals say at least another week or 10 days
are required. In the last academic year, it was extended
to September 8 and admission approval was done up to October
24. This year, its early. We want more time, Prakash added.
Principals said in most undergraduate science courses,
the admission has been low. BCom and BBM courses always
have takers, but for BA and BSc, most colleges have poor
enrolment. We wait for PU supplementary and CET students
and therefore we are asking for an extension, said B S
Srikanta, principal, RBANMS Degree College.
Further,he said PU supplementary exam is conducted so
that students dont lose a year. By closing admissions
early, well be preventing their admission and thereby
causing loss of a year, he said.
Echoing similar views, M Govindaiah, principal, Vivekananda
Degree College, said some students who dont get seats
in desired colleges or courses through CET opt for degree
courses. With CET counselling on, its a problem for students
and colleges. Earlier, counselling would be over and then
the last date of BU admission would be announced, he added.
The principals strongly felt that by extending the admission
date, the university would help students from other states
and countries to get academic transcripts, visa and other
documents to secure admission to undergraduate courses.
DEADLINE DEFENCE
The first time we heeded the principals request and extended
the date to August 14 because the II PU supplementary
exam results hadnt been announced. We have set an early
admission deadline, so that we get time to organize everything
on time, specially for examinations, including printing
of question papers.
