Once again,a day of delays & high cut-offs
In 2nd Bifocal Merit List Cut-Offs Drop By A Few Marks,But
844 Students Get Betterment
Mumbai: Once again, chaos and confusion marked the better
part of Thursday evening, when colleges were scheduled
to put up the second merit list for the bifocal category
at 5 pm. Most colleges, however, were able to access the
lists only after 7 pm,and in some instances,it was as
late as 9 pm. Students said they did not get the promised
SMS alerts from the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation
Limited (MKCL),which is handling the online admissions
process. Even the first merit list that was supposed to
be put up on August 31 was delayed by many hour sit came
out only at 10.30pm that day. While cut-offs were high
even in the second round, 844 students were awarded seats
in the college of their choice under the betterment process.
The total number of seats allotted under the second merit
list was 2,910.Explaining the betterment process, deputy
director of education,Mumbai region,Sunil R Chouhan, said:
Students who may have been awarded a seat in a college
that was their fifth choice may get a seat in an institution
which they had listed as their second preference. They
can opt for that college.
Meanwhile, given the delays in the online admission process, this
time around, students, chose to stay at home and access
the second merit list on the website fyjc.org.in.Many
complained that they were left in the dark about the merit
list for more than an hour until MKCL put up a notice
at 6.30 pm notifying them about the delay.
I didnt even bother to go to the college to check the
list.I saw the message online, said Tejas Pandey, who had
missed the first merit list at K C College by four marks. As
cut-offs were high,he did not make it in this round either.
In most colleges, there was a drop of only three to four
marks in the second merit list.As the cutoffs for the
first merit list were very high, our cut-off for the second
list came down by just one mark, said Vijay Joshi, principal
of K J Somaiya College.
College principals, too, had a tough time accessing the
list on MKCLs website. We could not login itself till almost
8:30 pm.We finally got the list only by 8:45 pm,so we
will put it up on Friday morning, said Kitri Narain, principal
of Jai Hind College,Churchgate.
MKCL,which is manning the entire online admission process
for the second year in a row,has refused to comment on
the constant delays.Students, too, are frustrated as the
system had promised a transparent and smooth admission
process. There was no huge delay this time.Students need
not worry since this will not be repeated again, said
a senior official from the education board.A majority
of the students awaiting the first general merit list
that will be out on August 9,are sceptical and bracing
themselves for a harrowing evening.
Seats allotted under the second merit list -
2,910
Seats under betterment - 844
