Introduction

Symbiosis Institute of Journalism & Communication (SIJC) was established in 1990 and later renamed Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication (SIMC). The Institute has evolved into a leading media Institute, providing the industry with skilled and trained media professionals adept in all fields of mass communication.

Under-Graduate programme in Media Studies (Bachelors of Media Studies)

Eligibility :

10+2 in any discipline from any recognized Board /Council / University with a minimum of 50% (45% for SC/ST) aggregate marks, or equivalent grades, are eligible to seek admission. Applicants expecting their 12th results may also apply. Their admission will be provisional and subject to furnishing proof of securing a minimum of 50% (45% for SC/ST) aggregate marks, or equivalent grades, in the same latest by beginning of the Second Semester. Failure to furnish proof shall render their admission null and void. No extra time will be given for submission of final mark sheet even in the case of students who have applied for revaluation.

HOW TO APPLY

Stape 1:

Register online at www.set-test.org. the SET ID & buy the SET Bulletin. Appear for the SET Test.

Candidates will be short-listed based upon the SET Test performance.

Pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 1000/- . You have 3 choices of payment modes.

Online Payment through CREDIT CARD: You may pay directly through either Master or Visa card online.
   Follow the instructions on the website.

DEMAND DRAFT: Get a demand draft for Rs. 1000/- from any Bank in favour of "Symbiosis Institute of

Media and Communication (UG)” payable at Pune. Write your SET ID and name back side of the Demand Draft.

INTERNET BANKING: Candidate can make their payments through Net Banking Option.

Choose the mode of Payment as DD in "Make Payment" Tab and click "Submit" Take a print of the payment
advice form, sign send it along with the DD to the Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication only at,

Admission procedure

First Round

SET is the Symbiosis Entrance Test; a common written test conducted by Symbiosis for Under graduate programmes, over 25 cities across India. It is the first step in seeking admission to Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication (SIMC-UG). The score of the SET Test is used to select candidates for the second round. SIMC gives a varied weightage to the SET test component scores and does not go by the aggregate SET score only.

Second Round

This round consists of a group discussion, home assignments and a personal interview.

The weightage is as follows:

Personal Interview 30%
Group Discussion 20%
Subjective Exam 20%
Past Academic Performance 20%
Based on SET score 10%

Facilities :

The Viman Nagar Campus is situated inside the city limits, yet far from the absolute chaos of city life. Housed in a building, which won an award for its design, the campus for the undergraduate media students is well suited to their needs and learning potential. Separate hostels for boys and girls are situated near the campus building. The campus is perfect for undergraduate studies with its combined grounds for students of design and business administration.

Reaching There

Viman Nagar is the area closest to the airport in Pune, and falls under the Kalyani Nagar area, which is roughly 8 km from the railway station. There are public buses that ply to Viman Nagar and other means of public transport like autos and cabs can be hired to reach Viman Nagar. SIMC (UG) campus has the following facilities:

Seminar Halls:

These are provided with overhead LCD projectors and public-address systems.

Screening Rooms:

These are acoustically sealed, split air-conditioned mini-auditoriums with wall to wall carpeting and provided with overhead LCD projection systems and Dolby 7.1 surround sound system.

Audio-Visual Studio:

A shooting floor along with a Production Control Room. It is equipped with multiple digital cameras and multi-channel digital mixers. Lighting equipment includes overhead moveable lighting grid, cool floods, spot lights & shadow caster.

Post-Production Suite:

Five air-conditioned cubicles are equipped with non-linear edit systems to meet the students editing needs. The same has the following software: Avid and FCP.

Photography Studio:

The air-conditioned photography studio combines both manual and digital facilities. It has a darkroom with enlarger for manual D&P, as well as computers with contemporary software for digital imagery. The studio is equipped with professional lights, SLR cameras and other essential equipment.

Computer Laboratory:

The air-conditioned computer laboratory has about 37 terminals equipped with Pentium IV processor driven CPUs connected to 15" screens. The laboratory is fully networked and provides high-speed broadband connectivity, with power back-up. A variety of Publishing, Post Production and Design Technology softwares are available. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled.

Library:

The library is a well-stocked collection acquired since its inception, and covering a broad span of technical and non­-technical subjects pertaining to mass media and communication management. A computerized cataloguing system provides instant access facility for any book, by title, author, publisher, or ISBN number. The library also subscribes to a wide assortment of national and international newspapers, magazines and journals, besides some other publications.

Audio-Visual Library:

The audio-visual library has a comprehensive collection of films and documentaries in English, Hindi and other Foreign / Regional languages. Viewing booths are available to access these films at any time during working hours.
