Introduction

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, Patiala was established by the State Legislature of Punjab by passing the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab Act, 2006 (Punjab Act No. 12 of 2006). The Act incorporated a University of Law of national stature in Punjab, thereby fulfilling the need for a Centre of Excellence in Legal Education in the modern era of globalization and liberalization. RGNUL started functioning from its Headquarters Mohindra Kothi, The Mall, Patiala w.e.f. 26 May 2006. The University acquired approval of the Bar Council of India in July 2006. The University got registered with the University Grants Commission, New Delhi under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 and has been declared fit to obtain grant from University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 12-B of the UGC Act, 1956.

Courses offered :

BA. LLB (Hons.) Five Year Integrated Course

The Admission shall be based exclusively on the performance in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). However, to qualify for admission the candidate:

 
Must have passed 10+2 examination of the Punjab School Education Board or its equivalent with minimum    50% marks for General Category and 45% marks for SC/ST/Person with disability in the aggregate.

 
The age of the candidate must not be more than 20 years in case of General and 22 years in case of the    SC/ST/Person with disability candidates as on 1st July 2009.

 
The candidates appearing in or awaiting results of the qualifying examination respectively being held in    March/April 2009 may also apply and appear for the Combined Law Admission Test (CLAT) provisionally,    subject to the condition that they shall produce the proof of having passed the qualifying examination with    the prescribed percentage of marks at the time of their interview/counseling.

 
The candidature of: Those who do not clear the qualifying examination with the requisite marks and fail to    produce result on the date of interview/counseling, and Those who get compartments/re-appear in any    subject in the qualifying examination shall be cancelled and subsequent securing qualifying marks shall not    be considered at any stage.

 
Candidates applying in the SC/ST/Person with disability category are required to submit certificate from    the competent authority.

INTAKE AND RESERVATION

The total number of seats for the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five Years Integrated Course shall be eighty (80). Division of the seats shall be as under:

The candidature of the Punjab Resident Category shall be determined on submission of an affidavit and certificate as per the Punjab Government letter No. 1/3/95-3PPII/9619 dated 06.06.96 as amended vide the Punjab Government, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms letter No. 11/3/95-3PP-II/80 dated 01.01.99.

Admission to the category of the 'Foreign Nationals' shall be the Direct Admission on the basis of inter-se-
merit of the qualifying examination and the interview. These candidates are to apply through CLAT form directly to the Registrar, RGNUL.

FACILITIES

Library

The Library at the RGNUL has acquired a collection of over 14000 Volumes covering a wide range of general and special subjects consisting of text books, reference books, volumes of journals, reports etc. apart from the current legal periodicals. The RGNUL Library at present subscribes 35 Law Journals and about 25 magazines. Apart from the subscription to law journals, 14 Newspapers and Online journals are also being subscribed by the RGNUL Library for keeping the students and faculty in touch with the current affairs. Apart from these two, separate reading rooms have been marked for the undergraduate students and for the Post graduate students
