Introduction
The Karnataka Government established on August 29, 1987
the National Law School of India University at Bangalore
under the National Law School of India Act (Karnataka
Act 22 of 1986). A large number of retired Judges of the
Supreme Court and High Courts as well as Senior Advocates
have offered to assist the NLSIU in its teaching and research
programmes making education at NLSIU a rare and exciting
experience to the student body. The NLSIU started its
journey in 1987 under the stewardship of its Founder Director,
Dr. N.R. Madhava Menon. The first batch of students joined
on July 1, 1988 in the integrated five year B.A., LL.B.
(Hons.) course. The NLSIU started its courses in the premises
of the Central College, Bangalore University. The NLSIU
moved to its own premises at the present address in 1992. |
Courses offered :
B.A, LL.B. (Hons.)
NLSIU offers B.A., L.L.B. (Hons), integrated five years
full time trimester course.
Eligibility :
Candidate
willing to take admission for B.A., L.L.B. (Hons) program
has to go through the Common Law Admission
Test (CLAT). CLAT would be conducted hereafter every
year by each of National Law Schools on rotation
as per the criterion of seniority. The NLSIU, Bangalore,
the oldest of the National Law Schools will set
the process in motion by undertaking to conduct the
admission test for the academic year 2008-09.
To be eligible for taking CLAT-2009, a candidate should
have passed Higher Secondary School / Intermediate
Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with
not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45%
in case of SC/ST/OBC* and Persons with Disability*)
and should not be more than 20 years of age on
1st July, 2009 (22 years incase of SC/ST/OBC* and Persons
with Disability*).
Subject to reservation at the University
concerned.
Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination
can also appear provisionally. However, they shall have
to produce proof of having passed the qualifying exam
before or at the time counselling with detailed mark
sheet.
Note: Candidates with compartment / supplementary
in any subject in the qualifying examination are not eligible
for the admission.
PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING OF APPLICATION FORM AND SUBMISSION
The
Application Forms are available from 12th
January, 2009 at the nominated branches of Indian Bank,
State Bank of India and eleven National
Law Schools. The addresses of the branches of banks
are available on http://www.clat.ac.in/
website.
The
Application Form can also be downloaded from CLAT website
and the duly filled-in Form in own hand writing
should be sent to CLAT Office along with a demand draft
for Rs.2,500/- (Rs.2,000/- in case of SC/ST)
drawn in favor of ‘Convenor, CLAT-2009 (NALSAR)’
payable at Hyderabad.
The
Application Form can also be obtained from CLAT office
by sending a demand draft for Rs. 2,500/- (Rs. 2,000/-
in case of SC / ST with proof) drawn in favor of ‘Convenor,
CLAT-2009 (NALSAR)’ payable at Hyderabad.
The
last date for submission of duly filled-in Application
Form is 10th April, 2009.
Candidates
who wish to apply under Foreign National Category are
required to check the instructions and use
the Application Form provided for that purpose on CLAT
website. For further information and details, candidates
are required to visit website of the concerned University.
Note: Incomplete applications will be
rejected
FACILITIES
The University is fully residential, with complete residential
facilities for students and staff. The campus has a main
academic block, a distance education block, three Halls
of Residence each for men and women, one post- graduate
women's hostel, staff quarters and a well equipped training
center with residential facilities for participants participating
in the training programs. The academic block has dedicated
spacious classrooms with state-of-the art audio-visual
equipment with a campus wide Wired and Wireless Network
for the students.
Hostel
Separate hostels for men and women are present with three
Halls of Residence for men and three for women. There
is also a P.G. Women's Hostel. All hostels have 24 hour
running hot water. Laundry facilities are also available
on campus. All hostels have their own generator and hence
there is an uninterrupted power supply. The Halls of Residence
have a common room, each equipped with cable television,
limited facilities for indoor games and a small in-house
library. The Hostels also have Tea/Coffee vending machines.
Library
An excellent library having a collection of over 40,000
volumes covering a wide range of general and special subjects
consisting of text books, reference books, back volumes
of journals and reports etc. At present the library is
housed in one portion of the Academic Complex. The building
has all the modern state-of-the-art gadgets with wi-fi
internet connection as well as highly modernized Audio-Visual
equipments with teleconferencing facility etc. Special
arrangements also have been made for the physically handicapped
persons to make use of the library.
IT Services
The NLS has provided a campus wide Wired and Wireless
Network for the students. The Academic block is equipped
with 200 Wired Nodes and 150 Wireless Nodes. The Students
use the network facilities to browse online databases,
CD-ROM databases and online full text journals, surfing,
communication, etc. Currently, the academic block has
around 100 computers which are networked. There is a 512
kbps leased line connection to the internet. The computer
lab has around 30 computers for the exclusive use of students
and is open 18 hours on all days. There are also computers
in the library reference section connected to the internet.
Students also make use of Scanning, Printing and CD-writing
facilities.
Mess / Canteen
There is a canteen in the Academic Block which is open
from 9.30 A.M. to midnight. One can find soft drinks,
snacks, as well as regular meals. A well stocked canteen
facility is also available.
Sports Facilities
NLS has provided sports facilities. Currently the School
has a basketball court, a volley ball/throw ball court,
a tennis court on the campus and indoor facilities for
table tennis in the Halls of Residence. Apart from
this NLS has fitness center and Gym facilities with state
of the art equipments.
Bank Facilities
The University accounts are with the Corporation Bank
which has a branch on Campus functioning six days a week.
The Corporation Bank also provides ATM facilities to students
who have an account with them.
Health Centre
The School has a small health center on its premises with
an experienced doctor serving as consultant available
daily at designated hours. The health center has a full
time residential qualified Nurse. The health center takes
care of immediate needs and is equipped with beds and
quarantine cubicles with in-patient facilities.
