Introduction
The National Law Institute University (NLIU) has been
established by Act No. 41 of 1997 of the Madhya Pradesh
Legislature to fill the gap and providing most modern
legal education through multidisciplinary teaching and
training of newer skills needed for the profession. The
University launched its first academic programme in 1998
and teaching for five year B.A., LL.B. course commenced
from September 1 of that year.

Courses offered :
B.A, LL.B. (Hons.)
NLIU offers B.A., L.L.B. (Hons), integrated five years
full time trimester course.
Eligibility :
Candidate
willing to take admission for B.A., L.L.B. (Hons) program
has to go through the Common Law Admission
Test (CLAT). CLAT would be conducted hereafter every
year by each of National Law Schools on rotation
as per the criterion of seniority. The NLSIU, Bangalore,
the oldest of the National Law Schools will set
the process in motion by undertaking to conduct the
admission test for the academic year 2008-09.
No candidate shall be eligible for admission unless he/she
has passed the class-12th examination in the
10+2 scheme or its equivalent in Science,
Arts, Commerce or any other discipline and has secured
in the aggregate not less than 50% of
the total marks in the grand total of all papers except
additional papers, in the said examination.
However, in the case of candidates belonging to SC, ST
or OBC category, the minimum percentage
of marks for eligibility shall be 45% of the total marks
in the grand total of all papers except
additional papers at the class – 12th
examination.
The candidates seeking admission must not have attained
20 years of age as on July 1, 2009. Relaxation of Two
years is permitted for candidates belonging to SC/ST
and OBC categories.
Intake and Reservation: The NLIU admits 82 students for
its B.A.LL.B (Hons.) program. Out of these 82 seats,
41 seats are for All India candidates and remaining 41
seats are for the residents of Madhya Pradesh
to be filled up through Common Law Admission Test. The
following chart illustrates the distribution of
seats as per the reservation rules:

Note: Seats shown for women are the minimum,
they can be offered more seats, if they find place in
merit, as it is horizontal reservation.
PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING OF APPLICATION FORM AND SUBMISSION
The
Application Forms are available from 12th January,
2009 at the nominated branches of Indian Bank, State
Bank of India and eleven National Law Schools. The addresses
of the branches of banks are available
on http://www.clat.ac.in/
website.
The
Application Form can also be downloaded from CLAT website
and the duly filled-in Form in own hand writing
should be sent to CLAT Office along with a demand draft
for Rs. 2,500/- (Rs. 2,000/- in case of SC/ST)
drawn in favor of ‘Convenor, CLAT-2009 (NALSAR)’
payable at Hyderabad.
The
Application Form can also be obtained from CLAT office
by sending a demand draft for Rs. 2,500/- (Rs. 2,000/-
in case of SC / ST with proof) drawn in favor of ‘Convenor,
CLAT-2009 (NALSAR)’ payable at Hyderabad.
The
last date for submission of duly filled-in Application
Form is 10th April, 2009.
Candidates
who wish to apply under Foreign National Category are
required to check the instructions and use
the Application Form provided for that purpose on CLAT
website. For further information and details, candidates
are required to visit website of the concerned University.
Note: Incomplete applications will be
rejected
FACILITIES
The University is fully residential, with complete residential
facilities for students and staff.
Halls of Residence
The University offers separate residential facilities
for men and women. All residents are provided with single
rooms each having modular study and computer table, spacious
steel admiral and cupboard. The Halls boast of manicured
lawns, gymnasium, and common room fitted with color television
and cable network, reading room and indoor sports facilities.
The residents are also provided with 24 hours hot and
cold water and laundry services.
Library
The library is well equipped with over 30,000 volumes
consisting of reference books, back volumes of journals
and law reports, current legal periodicals and a wealth
of statistical material and rare collections. The students
maintain the computerized ‘knowledge management
system’ that adds around 5000 student projects to
the database annually and aids in disseminating information
for research. Photocopying facility is available
within the premises.
IT Services
The Centre houses over a hundred Pentium IV computers
with a high-speed 2 MB leased circuit for Internet. It
is equipped with projectors and other audiovisual devices.
Round the clock Internet access is available. Apart from
this, the University campus is Wi – Fi (Wireless
– fidelity) enabled with 18 ‘hot spots’
spread across the campus providing users with instant
Internet access on their personal computers and laptops.
Mess / Canteen
The modest mess facilities at the Halls of Residence endeavor
to provide for quality breakfast, lunch, evening tea with
snakes and dinner all with different menu for each day
of the week. The menu ranges from North Indian and South
Indian to the Chinese. Non-vegetarian food is served four
times a week. Late night snacks are provided during the
exam weeks.
Sports Facilities
NLIU can now boast of its own ultra modern sporting complex
having two courts each of Lawn Tennis, Volleyball and
Basketball besides a Football field and an indigenously
improvised Cricket maidan. A range of sporting activities
can be managed inside the complex, which is set to have
the indoor stadium for badminton, table tennis, billiards
and scores of other games. The complex also includes an
athletic track.
Bank Facilities
The Bank of Baroda has been organizing an extension counter
on a weekly basis on the campus in the past. Students
can open their accounts and carry out transactions through
this extension counter.
Transport Facilities
Two Swaraj Mazda 40 seated vehicles are used for providing
conveyance facility for the faculty, staff and students
to commute to the city, market and railway station. It
is also used for several other students’ activities
like court visits, clinical programs, field studies and
legal aid work. The buses have scheduled departures to
the city from the campus twice a week.
Healthcare
A tie-up is in place with three Hospitals for attending
to medical problems of the students. The University has
engaged a senior physician who visits the campus thrice
a week for medical consultation. For emergencies,
the University has a vehicle at its disposal to take the
students to the hospital for immediate attention
and care.
