GUJARAT NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY

Introduction

GNLU is the statutory university established by the Govt. of Gujarat under the Gujarat National Law University Act, 2003. "The objects of the University," the GNLU Act2003 proclaims, "shall be to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development: to develop in the students and the research scholars sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, parliamentary practice, law reforms and such other matters; to make law and legal processes efficient instruments of social development; and to promote inter-disciplinary study of law in relation to management, technology, international cooperation and development."

 Courses offered :

B.A, LL.B. (Hons.)

GNLU offers B.A., L.L.B. (Hons.), integrated five years full time semester course.

Eligibility :

 Candidate willing to take admission for B.A., L.L.B. (Hons) program has to go through the Common Law    Admission Test (CLAT). CLAT would be conducted hereafter every year by each of National Law Schools on    rotation as per the criterion of seniority. The NLSIU, Bangalore, the oldest of the National Law Schools will    set the process in motion by undertaking to conduct the admission test for the academic year 2008-09.

To be eligible for taking CLAT-2009, a candidate should have passed Higher Secondary School /    Intermediate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in aggregate    (45% in case of SC/ST/OBC* and Persons with Disability*) and should not be more than 20 years of age    on 1st July, 2009 (22 years incase of C/ST/OBC* and Persons with Disability*).

Candidates appearing for Standard XII examination in the year of admission shall also be permitted to    take the National Entrance Test, but their admission to the course shall be subject to fulfilling the conditions    stipulated in the Regulations at the time of admission and production of documentary evidence of their    eligibility. All admissions shall be completed before 15th May of every year.

Note: Candidates with compartment / supplementary in any subject in the qualifying examinations are not eligible for the admission.

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING OF APPLICATION FORM AND SUBMISSION

 The Application Forms are available from 12th January, 2009 at the nominated branches of Indian Bank,    State Bank of India and eleven National Law Schools. The addresses of the branches of banks are    available on http://www.clat.ac.in/ website.

 The Application Form can also be downloaded from CLAT website and the duly filled-in Form in own hand    writing should be sent to CLAT Office along with a demand draft for Rs.2,500/- (Rs.2,000/- in case of    SC/ST) drawn in favor of ‘Convenor, CLAT-2009 (NALSAR)’ payable at Hyderabad.

 The Application Form can also be obtained from CLAT office by sending a demand draft for Rs. 2,500/- (Rs.    2,000/- in case of SC / ST with proof) drawn in favor of ‘Convenor, CLAT-2009 (NALSAR)’ payable at    Hyderabad.

The last date for submission of duly filled-in Application Form is 10th April, 2009.

Candidates who wish to apply under Foreign National Category are required to check the instructions and    use the Application Form provided for that purpose on CLAT website. For further information and details,    candidates are required to visit website of the concerned University.

Note: Incomplete applications will be rejected.

FACILITIES

The University is fully residential, with complete residential facilities for students and staff including
transport, health center etc. The campus is Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) enabled and provides wireless Internet connectivity.

Halls of Residence

The University provides separate Halls of Residence for boys and girls. UG students are given preference in allotment of hostel accommodation.

Library

GNLU has been able to aggregate together a rich library including a variegated slew of titles in a short span of time. The library now boasts of a compendium of 9,000 volumes of journals and knowledgeable tomes. These books cover a wide spectrum of some 400 themes in Law and stream paper related subjects, including international journals.

IT Services

The University has a 60-unit computer laboratory for students. Forty of the computers have complete sets
of AIR (SC/HC/Crilj) Installed. Other Law Resources like lexisnexis.com (online), jstor.org (online), manupatra.com (online), GLH-SC/HC, GLR are also available to the students. The Laboratory has access to Internet. At present Total 72 Nodes and 3 servers are connected with 4 mbps bandwidth at Academic Block. Wi-Fi Network connectivity is available at Hostel, Library and Faculty cabin for Internet and Intranet Access. Scanning and printing facility is available in the Computer Lab.

Mess / Canteen

There is a Mess-Canteen on campus which provides breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

Health Centre

A Physician and a Nurse visit the hostels everyday in the evening. GNLU insists on submission of a complete medical history of each student at the time of admission. The University students have special access to Civil Hospitals at Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

The University keeps a vehicle stationed in the hostel complex for emergency use at night. First Aid facility is available within the hostel complex as well as in the Academic Block.
