VIT UNIVERSITY
VIT University (Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India) was established
with the aim of providing quality higher education on
par with international standards. It persistently seeks
and adopts innovative methods to improve the quality of
higher education on a consistent basis.
ACCREDITATION
 VIT
is the first educational institution in India to get international
accreditations for its programmes. The Institution
of Engineering and Technology (IET), United Kingdom and
the Energy Institute, United Kingdom have
audited the Teaching-Learning Processes at VIT and accredited
the respective programmes, in the year
2004, with the highest validity of 5 years.
Vellore
Engineering College was the first educational institution
in India to be awarded the ISO 9002 certificate
by the DNV (Det Norske Veritas), of the Netherlands, for
three years.
Programmes at VIT have been accredited by the National
Board of Accreditation (NBA) and All India Council
for Technical Education (AICTE).
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC)
of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has
accredited the University with a B+ Grade (equivalent
to 5-Star).
VIT is the first educational institution to be honoured
with the TVN-KIDAO-NIQR award instituted by the National
Institute of Quality and Reliability (NIQR) for maintaining
exceptional quality.
Chancellor G. Viswanathan was honoured with the prestigious
"Connect 2006 Achiever Award" by the Confederation
of Indian Industry, Chennai for the achievement in the
field of IT by way of creating suitable infrastructure
and facilities for imparting IT education in the country.
The Award was presented to him by the
Union Minister for IT and Communications.
Programmes of VIT have been accredited by the Institution
of Engineers, India (IEI).
Multinational companies such as Tata Consultancy Services
(TCS) have accredited VIT to the highest level enabling
VIT students to earn higher starting salary scales.

Students

develop the personality required by the global industry.
The University has facilities that are exceptional
in every way. The environment-friendly green campus is
home to a wealth of computing facilities
and laboratories and several architecturally striking
buildings, where every need of both student and
faculty is met. About, 13500 students, a fourth of them
women, around 725 faculty and 795 administrative
and technical staff live in comfort and work in a congenial
atmosphere.

Courses
Teaching
at VIT University is structured around six schools of
study. A student is registered in one of the schools;
depending on the degree/programme he/she student is interested
in pursuing.
Research
centers are also part of the schools, encouraging interdepartmental
collaboration and opportunity for students
to participate in exciting research projects. The university
offers 15 Undergraduate and 31 Postgraduate
programmes.

Innovative Programmes
Dual Degree Programs and Integrated MBA Programs are also
offered for students desirous of studying two degrees simultaneously.
B.Tech.
(Dual Degree) Information Technology
This innovative programme is intended for bright B. Tech. students
from non-CS/IT branches like Civil,
Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Biotechnology.
From the III Semester onwards, students who opt for
this Dual Degree programme study extra subjects
and earn credits which will enable them to acquire the
additional degree of B. Tech. (IT). At the end
of four years, successful students get two degrees, the
B.Tech. degree in which they were originally admitted
along with the additional B.Tech IT degree.
Integrated 5-year Degree Programmes
Today the school offers 4 post- graduate programmes, viz., the
2-year MBA, the 2-year MBA in
International
Business, the 5-year Integrated MBA, and the 5-year Integrated
B. Tech-MBA degree. It also
offers a Ph.D.
in Management.
B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) with M.Tech. (Construction
Technology and Management)
In this program first year M.Tech. (Construction Technology
and Management) courses will be offered with the
third and final years of the B.Tech. (Civil Engineering) programme.
Students then proceed to the fifth year to
complete the M.Tech. degree.
Research Programmes
Full-time/Part-time Ph.D., M.S. (BY RESEARCH) Degrees
in Engineering and Management Disciplines and Ph.D.,
M.Phil. in Sciences and Languages.
Placement
VIT
University has been a consistent topper for several years
in the list of campus placement records among
private institutions in India. It is proud that its graduates
are highly rated by employers from industry
and commerce in the private and public sectors. Offering
information, advice, guidance and support
for job-seeking students is considered a primary responsibility
at the University.
The Placement and Training Centre is provided with a well-equipped
conference training room and separate, well-furnished
rooms for interviews and counselling. It is headed by Prof.
S.R. Pullabhotla, the Director who is supported
by well qualified permanent training staff.
VIT has introduced a Dream Offer option for the placed students
from the academic year 2007-2008. All
the placed students are given two additional placement
opportunities.
Companies like Intel, Amazon, Cisco, De Shaw, Microsoft, Yahoo,
Oracle, Google have recruited VIT
students through the "Dream Offer" with
packages of more than Rs.7,00,000 per annum. Software
companies that offer more than 4.00 lakhs per annum
are offered 'Dream status'.
Reputed software companies like Amazon, SAP Labs, VM Ware, Commvault,
GE Healthcare, Athena, Citrix,
Honeywell, ebay, Capital IQ which offered more
than 5 lakhs for the campus recruits visit VIT and recruit
the students.
All the Core Companies are given 'Dream Offer' status regardless
of the CTC offered which enables the
students from core engineering branches to pursue
the career in their own domain.
Indian Oil, Tata Power, Tata Bluescope Steel, Crompton Greaves,
Mahindra & Mahindra, Renault Nissan,
Hyundai Motors, Ashok Leyland, Delphi, Cummins,
Essar, Tata Consulting Engineers, Foster Wheeler, Malco
and Tecpro are some of the core companies that
visit VIT for campus regularly.
